Nonviolence programming  involves interpersonal conflict resolution, as well as working for  changes in public policy that for years have essentially implemented different types of violence against the poor and communities of color.  IPJ has a long history of adopting and endorsing a nonviolent "Kingian" philosophy in changing our communities and our world for the better, for all of our children and families.

We are working with young people from the St. Louis Juvenile Court & Family Court, helping them to explore realistic
alternatives to violence in their lives through the medium of the arts.  OUR GOALS ARE TO:

         - Provide avenues for the young people to feel a sense of power and control over their lives
         - Provide tools for developing positive problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
         - Explore realistic alternatives to violence in their lives through the medium of the arts.

Our SOS classes reach out to women who have been incarcerated, giving them additional positive tools for solving problems without resorting to violence to facilitate a healthy re-entry into society.  Working together with the Center for Women In Transition(CWIT), this program has already served 300-400 women.  The SOS process itself has proven to be beneficial to anyone in dealing with problems, which every one of us experiences at some time in their lives.

Bully Kids

We continue to do the planning for a new initiative, dedicated to the legacy of Jim McGinnis, on specific ways to counter the culture of violence.  The initiative will include work on advocacy on gun control issues, recommitment of the Pledge of Nonviolence, and alternatives to violent toys and entertainment.
